Parc National de Souss Massa

Set off on an unforgettable journey into the heart of nature with a guided tour of Souss Massa National Park. Your adventure begins with pick-up from your hotel in Taghazout around 8:00 AM, followed by a scenic 40-minute drive through the stunning landscapes of southern Morocco.

Souss Massa National Park Excursion – A Unique Nature Getaway

Established in 1991 and covering 33,800 hectares, the park’s main mission is the conservation and restoration of the Saharan wildlife native to southern Morocco. The park features a natural trail along the Souss River and a visitor center near the Oued Massa.
Oued Massa, which retains water year-round, serves as a critical breeding ground for rare species such as the marbled teal. It is also the only known nesting site in Morocco for the endangered Northern Bald Ibis. The estuaries of the Souss and Massa rivers are vital stopovers for migratory birds, particularly waders and gulls.
The park also houses important captive breeding programs for four threatened North African ungulate species:
• Scimitar-horned oryx
• Addax
• Dama gazelle
• Dorcas gazelle
Additionally, a reintroduction program for the North African red-necked ostrich—now extinct in the northern Sahara—is underway.

Upon arrival, you’ll visit the park’s museum, where you’ll learn more about the endangered species it shelters. The park is home to over 250 bird species, 30 mammals, and 35 reptiles and amphibians. Keep your eyes open during your guided exploration!
